Researching Reaction of Laboratory Mice Organisms’ Genetic System to Acute Radiation and Prolonged Exposure

Period: since 1999

Customer: Texas Tech University, USA

Project objective: study the consequences of radioactive impact onto genetic system of mammals.

The research performed:

During 1999-2004, a series of experiments regarding exposure of animals under the conditions of the most contaminated sites within the Chornobyl Zone (‘Red Forest’) and in laboratory conditions were performed using a gamma-device.

Currently, the level of mutagenesis and genetic load transfer to next generations are being assessed.
