Assessment of the coefficients of radionuclides intake in the tissue of model species Arabidopsis thaliana in the Exclusion Zone conditions

Client: Institute of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN), France
Period: 2011-2012

The object of researches is to estimate the parameters of radionuclides (90Sr, 137Cs, 241Am, 238-240Pu, 234,238U) in the tissue of model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana. Idea, design and support of the experiment – Institute of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN, France). Arabidopsis is a popular object of genetic studies of radiation and within the cooperation between IRL and IRSN it is supposed to be used in research of molecular basis of radionuclides transport mechanism from soil to plant tissues. This research is reqired in order to produce output data that will be used later in the proper genetic studies.

The content of the works
In 2011, the main tasks of the study were: 1) establishment of experimental greenhouse on the basis of IRL ChC, 2) determination of optimal conditions for growing Arabidopsis in soils of local origin, and 3) identification of opportunities for healthy plants growing on soils with extremely high content of radionuclides.
