IAEA Mission in Slavutych

On 11th – 12th of December 2018 the Chornobyl Center’s specialists took part in the work of the IAEA mission ‘Decommissioning of the buildings and structures, decommissioning methods, decontamination of concrete, management of the generated waste, including radioactive waste’, which was held in Slavutych.

The SSE ChNPP specialists presented the results of the work on the ChNPP Units decommissioning and identified the problematic issues that appeared during these works.

The IAEA representatives demonstrated the experience in the implementation of work on decontamination and dismantling of buildings and structures at the nuclear power facilities that are decommissioned, in particular, on dismantling work at Sellafield sites in the Great Britain and Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington State, USA.

There was a discussion of the presentations made.

The outcome of the first meeting in the framework of this mission was the presentation of recommendations by the IAEA experts on ways to solve the problematic issues that may appear during the work on the ChNPP Units decommissioning.
