Analysis of Radioactive Contamination of the Groundwater within The ChNPP Near Zone

Period: since 2003Customer: Texas Tech University, USA

Project objective: assess levels and peculiarities of radionuclides (3H, 90Sr, 137Cs, transuranium elements) spatial distribution in the free-flow water in quaternary neogenic deposits and develop maps and layouts of the groundwater radioactive contamination.

Within the framework of the project:

  • existing boreholes were revised;
  • water samples were taken from 23 boreholes (the following parameters were taken into consideration: geomorphological elements of the territory, soil contamination character and density, availability of RAW disposed near-surface, level of free-flow water and boreholes filter fitting, technical condition of the equipment).
