The international scientific workshop covering the problems of ecology terrorism prevention and radioactive contamination is being hosted in Slavutych during April 24-28

The scientific workshop was organized by the International Radioecology Laboratory of the International Chornobyl Center for Nuclear Safety, Radioactive Waste and Radioecology under the support of the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) and the U.S. Texas Tech University.

The workshop objective is to exchange experience and discuss possible solutions regarding protection of public and the environment, as well as organization of activities aimed at ecology terrorism prevention.

Mr. John Herbst, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, has sent a welcome letter to the workshop participants and stressed importance and topicality of the discussed issues for the whole world community and wished the workshop fruitful work.

The workshop participants were welcomed by Riaz Awan, Energy Attache, U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Director of the U.S. Department of Energy Office in Ukraine; Merlin Pifer, the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation; Victor Baryakhtar, Academician, Ukrainian NAS; Vladimir Kholosha, Director, Administration of the Exclusion Zone; Vladimir Udovichenko, Mayor of Slavutych; Yevhen Garin, Coordinating Director, Chornobyl Center.The honorable guests expressed their hope that the workshop will be of assistance in developing possible solutions regarding prevention of radioactive contamination and ecology terrorism and will be interesting and fruitful.

Over 70 delegates representing the USA, Ukraine, Russian Federation, Slovenia, and Iraq participate in the workshop activities.
