Nuclear Men of Two Countries Solve the Issues of NPP Power Units Decommissioning

On 14 October, the meeting of Ukrainian and Russian nuclear men dealing with the issues of realization of measures for preparation to NPP Power Units decommissioning was held in the Chornobyl Center (Slavutych).

The international meeting was organized by NNEGC “Energoatom”, Energoatom Concern OJSC (Russia) and Chornobyl Center within the framework of the organizations’ cooperation programmes.

In the course of the meeting, the nuclear men of Ukraine and Russia discussed scientific and technical problems dealing with realization of conception for a dry storage of NPP nuclear fuel waste and disposal of solid radioactive waste of the Ukrainian NPPs, shared experience of the method for safety assessment of near surface disposal facilities for radioactive waste.

The meeting participants include representatives of the Ukrainian NPPs, State Enterprise NNEGC “Energoatom”, Energoatom Concern OJSC (Russia), Chornobyl Center, State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, etc.

The reports pertaining to the current situation of the projects at the SSE ChNPP and perspective development of the ChNPP site, conditions and ways of the ChNPP cooling pond decommissioning, as well as system of information support of the NPP Power Units decommissioning raised the most interest of the audience during the 14th October’s meeting.

The international meeting will last for three days during which the meeting participants will listen to and discuss 18 reports, visit the Chornobyl NPP, facilities of the Liquid Radioactive Waste Treatment Plant (LRWTP), Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management ( ICSRWM), Shelter Object observation site, the town of Prypyat, reserve Crisis Center of the SE NNEGC “Energoatom’.
