New Measurement Technique was Developed and Verified

The State Scientific and Research Institution “Chornobyl Center for Nuclear Safety, Radioactive Waste and Radioecology” has developed a technique for radiochemical measurement of Strontium-90 volumetric activity in liquid media samples. A procedure of the technique development was based on application of the analysis outline involving Sr-resin selective sorbent recommended by IAEA’s publication Generic Procedures for Monitoring in a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency IAEA-TECDOC-1092/R.

The measurement technique has been verified by the State Enterprise “All-Ukrainian State Scientific and Production Center for Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Consumer Protection” (Ukrmetrteststandard), Technique Verification Certificate No. MVI 081/12-0586-08 dated December 10, 2008.

The verified technique enables measurement of Sr90 volumetric activity over the range from 1 to 1500 Bq/dm3 using Sr-resin selective sorbent in liquid media samples, such as process water, liquid releases, natural water (surface, ground and subsurface water). The analysis takes no more than 7 hours (1 working shift).
